Keppra Administration in the Emergency Department

Keppra is an antiseizure medication that is commonly used to treat patients who have seizures. It is often administered as an IV infusion to patients in the ED after they have a witnessed seizure or, occasionally, to prevent seizures in a patient at high risk of having one. The usual adult dosing is 1 gm administered IV over 15 minutes. Keppra administered IV is generally well-tolerated by patients and no side effects are usually noted. Of note, nystagmus is not associated with Keppra administration.

Keppra administration medical expert witness specialties include emergency medicine, medical toxicology, pediatric neurology, neurology, and epileptology.
