Myocardial Ischemia

Myocardial ischemia is one of the most common ailments seen by physicians, and thus the diagnosis and treatment are well understood by practitioners. Early in a myocardial infarction, restoration of blood flow can minimize the damage such that the heart may return to essentially normal function. If the infarct is interrupted late in the process, there may be permanent damage such that no myocardium is saved. At points in between, the sooner the process is interrupted, the more myocardium is saved.
